Effects of supplementation of Natucin C on intestinal villus structure of broilers

Materials and methods

Birds and intestinal samples

  At the conclusion of the feeding experiment reported in Effects of Supplementation of Natucin C on Growth Performace of Broilers, 4 birds from Natucin 0 or Natucin 100 group were killed and sampled according to the procedures of Wen et al.(2012).

Light microscopic examination

According to the procedures of Wen et al.(2012).

Scanning electron microscopic examination

According to the procedures of Wen et al.(2012).

The duodenum villus histomorphology and scanning electron microphotographs of broilers of Natucin 0 and 100 groups at 63 d of age were shown in Fig.1 and 2 respectively. It appeared that the duodenum villi of negative control were shorter (Fig.1, Left) and collapsed (Fig.2, Left), while the duodenum villi of Natuin 100 were longer (Fig.1, Right) and netted (Fig.2, Right), indicating that Natucin could promoted intestinal villus growth.

The jejunum villus scanning electron microphotographs of broilers of Natucin 0 and 100 groups at 63 d of age were shown in Fig.3. It appeared that the jejunum villi of negative control were severely inflamed (Fig.3, Left), while the duodenum villi of Natuin 100 were not-inflamed and tongue-like (Fig.3, Right). indicating that Natucin could eliminated intestinal inflammation.

Conclusions

Natucin C eliminated intestinal inflammation and promoted or permitted villus growth, thus improved feed conversion ratio, enhanced voluntary feed intake, and promoted growth of broilers.
